Rayleigh and Raman scattering by hydrogen and caesium
نویسنده
چکیده
An inhomogeneous differential equation method is used to calculate the Rayleigh and Raman scattering cross sections for atomic hydrogen and atomic caesium as functions of wavelength below and above the ionization limits. The profile of the scattering cross section near the 6s-6p resonance of atomic caesium is determined by including an energyindependent radiative width in the scattering formula. The effect of replacing the electric dipole operator by a modified form that takes account of the polarization of the wre by the valence electron is explored.

Raman Scattering by Molecular Hydrogen and Nitrogen in Exoplanetary Atmospheres
An important source of opacity in exoplanet atmospheres at short visible and near-UV wavelengths is Rayleigh scattering of light on molecules. It is accompanied by a related, albeit weaker process – Raman scattering. We analyze the signatures of Raman scattering imprinted in the reflected light and the geometric albedo of exoplanets, which could provide information about atmospheric properties....
متن کاملThe photon scattering cross - sections of atomic hydrogen
We present a unified view of the frequency dependence of the various scattering processes involved when a neutral hydrogen atom interacts with a monochromatic, linearly-polarized photon. A computational approach is employed of the atom trapped by a finite-sized-box due to a finite basis-set expansion, which generates a set of transition matrix elements between E < 0 eigenstates and E > 0 pseudo...
متن کاملRaman and Rayleigh Calibrations of the LHD YAG Thomson Scattering
We have carried out absolute calibrations of the LHD YAG Thomson scattering system by using Raman scattering and Rayleigh scattering in order to verify the applicability of Rayleigh calibration in the LHD Thomson scattering, and make a comparative study of Raman and Rayleigh calibrations. In the LHD Thomson scattering device, Rayleigh calibration is expected to give more reliable calibration fa...
متن کاملInvestigation of Scalar Modulation Instability in the Presence of Raman Scattering in Photonic Crystal Fibers
In this paper, by including Raman scattering in the coupled-mode equations, the scalar modulation instability in photonic crystal fibers is investigated. The evolution of the pump, Stokes and anti-Stokes waves along the fiber as well as the conversion efficiency for two cases, with and without Raman effect, are studied. The effect of anti-Stokes seed and the pump depletion on the evolution of S...
متن کاملSpectral structure of laser light scattering revisited: bandwidths of nonresonant scattering lidars.
It is well known that scattering lidars, i.e., Mie, aerosol-wind, Rayleigh, high-spectral-resolution, molecular-wind, rotational Raman, and vibrational Raman lidars, are workhorses for probing atmospheric properties, including the backscatter ratio, aerosol extinction coefficient, temperature, pressure, density, and winds. The spectral structure of molecular scattering (strength and bandwidth) ...
